The Negative Impact of Violent Video Games on Children

English 21003.Final Research Paper

Abstract:

Thousands of children around the world entertain themselves with video games on a daily basis. There is no denying that this form of entertainment has become a major trend within society as children are spending hours playing on consoles. This leads to the question: “ How do video games impact the behavior and mind of a child between the ages of 6 to 15?” Our study includes the analysis of children of ages 6 to 15. There have been several studies conducted with different methods to understand the changes that occur in adolescents when they play video games containing explicit material on sex, drugs, and guns— all yield similar results. For example, Coyne and his research team used the GAM method to measure the hypothesis and Zhang and his research team used two methods, one being SCT and CRT and they both contributed to measuring the impact of violent video games on children. To clarify the influence of violent video games on aggressive behavior, we conducted an analysis of this study that describes the relationship between video games that contain violence and a child’s behavior. Children exposed to violence from a young age become used to the concept of using violence, therefore believing it’s normal. Research and our findings demonstrate there are negative effects of these violent video games on children since they spend most of their time with them. Our data and findings confirm that video games that children consume most of their time that contain violence are risk factors for the development of aggressive behavior, anti-social behavior, and violence in children from an early age.
